The kind of society we live in, somehow we have been conditioned this way that once you are a mother, you have to sacrifice your own self and work towards nurturing your kids and home only. It becomes difficult to practice self-care without feeling guilty. But how can you take care of other by neglecting yourself?
First 6 months as a new mother it was too much of a work for me to handle 2 babies- changing diapers, burping, feeding and what not; it seemed that taking care of myself would be just another work added. Self care is vital in the life of any mom. Whether you are a working mom, work from home mom or a stay at home mom- taking care of yourself before others will just make you a better mom. That’s the truth. And you know it.

Make some puppy love
Progression from husband & wife to papa & Mumma brings about a lot of change in your relationship with your partner. Lack of sleep & overall exhaustion leaves one with no energy to even think about intimacy! Spending 5 minutes cuddling with your partner or sitting together holding hands would give a boost and add warmth to your relationship. It’s also a good way of making kids understand how each relation needs to be handled.
Read
I love to read. I can pick up just anything to read. And it’s the easiest Tip to follow- you can read while breastfeeding, while the baby is sleeping or while getting a pedicure done at the salon. There’s something about reading a good book and soaking yourself in some other world, some different character. It’s a great way to indulge and feel rejuvenated.
Speak/Cry it out
Sometimes crying out or just talking to yourself sitting in front of the mirror can be such a relieving experience. It acts as a cleanser for the mind. As a busy mom, your emotions are just bottled up and need to come out. IT.IS.OKAY!
Spend time in the Shower
Let’s face it! On any regular day with your toddler banging on the door or your baby playing in the tub across the bathroom door – bathing is just a task that needs to completed in minutes. How about fixing a day every week when you can enjoy a nice, long, relaxing bubbly bath? ( I just love my Bodyshop kit on such occasions)
Catch up with your girl gang
In some way or the other your friends are a reflection of you- no, not the mommy in you but you as a woman. It’s important to have close friends with whom you can speak your heart out or vent out your emotions. A cup of coffee together or simply catching up at home with a close friend would make you feel re-charged.
Take a Power Nap
A quick 20 minutes nap can sometimes do wonders. Just shut down your brain and body and rest. Simply lying down with closed eyes and breathing deeply can give you a booster and change your outlook towards any situation.
Drink a glass of water
Sounds too simple? Isn’t it just too basic? But ask yourself- how many times you procrastinate this. A glass of water (added lemon would be even better) works great for instant energy.
Color
Colouring helps you focus on task in hand and let’s go of the stress of zillion things that block Mommy’s mind all the time. Pick up an Adult colouring book and stay calm.
When it comes to self care activities, the focus isn’t just on finding that “me” time, but also on making you feel better about yourself. So whatever activity you do, choose the one that gives you life- instant energy and a reason to be happy just for your own self.
